During emergencies, large and small, one of the most important factors is coordination of both human and physical resources. All with the objective of bring the emergency to a successful conclusion. To do this we need to provide general management all activities – often called command and control. The emergency services use command and control and it could be said that generally businesses do to. Imagine if there was no boss in a business – it might sound like a good idea! But more likely, it would mean that nothing would be managed and the lack of coordination would reduce productivity, safety and business success.
In this combination course you will learn not only how to operate as an emergency warden but also as a leader who’s responsibility it is to coordinate an effective emergency response. Within the emergency warden course we emphasis the need to communicate very regularly with the chief warden so he or she can coordinate the response until the emergency services arrive.

The following information is provided as a guide in relation to the requirement for emergency preparedness response and recover in facilities (Businesses):
Work Health and safety regulation received a large update and some Australian Standards where established or updated to reflect legislative requirements. An example of this is regulation 43 of the Commonwealth Work Health and Safety Regulations 2011 (Compliance date 01/01/2019):
Division 4—Emergency plans
43 Duty to prepare, maintain and implement emergency plan
an emergency plan is prepared for the workplace,(2) A person conducting a business or undertaking at a workplace must maintain the
emergency plan for the workplace so that it remains effective.(3) For sub regulations (1) and (2), the person conducting the business or undertaking
must have regard to all relevant matters,(4) A person conducting a business or undertaking at a workplace must implement
the emergency plan for the workplace in the event of an emergency.
(a) In the case of an individual—$6 000.
(b) In the case of a body corporate—$30 000.
Note: Section 12F of the Act provides that strict liability applies to each physical element of
each offence under the Act, unless otherwise stated. The reference in section 12F of the
Act includes these Regulations.
