(PUAFER005) Operate as part of an emergency control organisation
Around two decades ago workplace the health and safety industry found that many organisations were’t adequately prepared for emergencies. Therefore, many businesses (PCBU) may not be providing a safe working environment for their employee. Thus they may be failing to fulfill their duty of care to employees.©️
Emergency fire warden training has become one aspect of preparedness for emergencies, which is legislated in health and safety regulations (see below an example of legislation). Furthermore, it provides occupants of facilities (businesses) with the skill to help keep all occupants safe.©️
The goal being to fill the effective response gap between an emergency occurring and the emergency services arriving on scene. Emergency fire wardens and there qualified actions can be the difference between others remaining safe and being injured or worse.

Work Health and safety regulation received a large update and some Australian Standards where established or updated to reflect legislative requirements. An example of this is regulation 43 of the Commonwealth Work Health and Safety Regulations 2011 (Compliance date 01/01/2019):
Division 4—Emergency plans
43 Duty to prepare, maintain and implement emergency plan
|(1) A person conducting a business or undertaking at a workplace must ensure that
an emergency plan is prepared for the workplace,-
|(2) A person conducting a business or undertaking at a workplace must maintain the
emergency plan for the workplace so that it remains effective.-©️
|(3) For sub regulations (1) and (2), the person conducting the business or undertaking
must have regard to all relevant matters,-
|(4) A person conducting a business or undertaking at a workplace must implement
the emergency plan for the workplace in the event of an emergency.-
|Sections 1,2 & 4 Penalty:
(a) In the case of an individual—$6 000.
(b) In the case of a body corporate—$30 000.
Note: Section 12F of the Act provides that strict liability applies to each physical element of
each offence under the Act, unless otherwise stated. The reference in section 12F of the
Act includes these Regulations.
